M. HUNTER ULF, AIA
Principal
As a founding Principal of UK Architects, Hunter has been a
key participant in the firm's success. After graduating with a
Bachelor of Environmental Design Degree from the University
of Colorado in 1981, Hunter worked for architectural firms in
Colorado, Massachusetts, and Vermont before making a leap
to business ownership in 1992. Hunter holds architectural
licenses in Colorado, New Hampshire, and Vermont.
Hunter brings a vast breadth of experience to every project he
works on. He has worked extensively on residential, commercial,
and institutional projects involving new construction, additions,
and renovations. Early in his career, Hunter served as a consultant
to the General Services Administration and the National Park Service
in the renovation of historic federal buildings nationwide. Hunter
has also donated his time and talent to a variety of community
projects including the design of a new firehouse and elementary
school observatory for his hometown.
Since becoming a member of the American Institute of Architects in
1989, Hunter has held a number of elected positions including
President of AIA Vermont and President of AIA New England. From 2001 to 2004, he
served on the AIA National Board of Directors, representing
the New England Region. He has served on the National Joint
Committee of the AIA and the Associated General Contractors, and
he has chaired the Advisory Jury for the AIA's Gold Medal and Firm
of the Year Awards, the highest awards of recognition given by the AIA.
In addition, he has been a design studio critic at Norwich University
and Vermont Technical College and has participated in architectural
design juries for the Boston Society of Architects and AIA New Jersey.
Hunter, his wife, Lisa, and their daughters, Kerstin and Brita, live in
Pomfret, Vermont. Hunter is an avid mountain biker and skier. He
also enjoys woodworking and architectural sight-seeing.
